What is Spragg Pastured Pork?

  • Our pigs are raised outside on a plant protein diet with no antibiotics or growth hormones in their feed.

  • Humanely raised in a low stress, environmentally friendly manner

  • All of this meat is provincially inspected and is sold only in Alberta

  • These pigs are born and raised naturally and then processed to your satisfaction by Greg and Bonnie Spragg.

 

We use three main breeds of pigs in our production. Yorkshire, landrace and duroc. These are all commercially used breeds that yield a lean animal and great tasting pork. The hogs get a consistent diet of a barley/fababean ration that we grind and feed to them in self feeders. The hogs have access to pastures that are 2-3 acres in size on a year round basis. During the summer, they run through their whole pasture, make mud wallows and eat both the pasture growth and their feed from the self feeder. In the winter, they burrow in deep straw to keep warm, continue to eat from the self feeders as well as from alfalfa hay bales that we add into their pasture area.
