Rock Your Stay-At-Home BBQ Party with These Homemade Patties

Just because we are all continuing to spend more time at home and practicing proper social distancing, that doesn’t mean you can’t have a stay-at-home barbeque party with your family! Spark up the grill and rock your stay-at-home BBQ party with these delicious homemade patties using either ground beef or ground pork from our meat shop:

Author: Jennifer Segal of Once Upon a Chef
Skill Level: Easy
Servings: 8 people

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces of crustless, soft white bread

  • 1/3 cup of low-fat milk (1% or skim)

  • 2 1/2 tsp of kosher salt

  • 1 tsp of black pepper

  • 3 minced garlic cloves

  • 1 1/2 tbs of Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tbs of ketchup

  • 3 lbs of lean ground beef (Or ground pork. We stock both at our Meat Shop)

  • 3 finely sliced scallions (optional)

  • 8 of your favourite hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Turn on your grill and crank it to a high heat.

  2. Add the bread slices and milk to a large bowl and mash together. (We know, this is a less-than-appetizing mixture.)

  3. Blend the salt, pepper, garlic, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup into the bread/milk paste. (It’s already looking more appetizing!)

  4. Mix the ground beef and scallions into the bowl, and don’t be shy to dig your hands in to combine the ingredients. Be careful not to over-mix.

  5. Divvy up your meat mixture into eight equal portions and flatten into the classic patty shape.
Tip: Adding a slight indent in the center of your patties helps to keep them from bulging on the grill.

  6. Slap your patties onto your grill and cook until they are nicely browned. Flip the patties and grill on the reverse side for another few minutes until they reach an internal temperature of 160F (72C). The cooking time will be dependent on the thickness of your patties.

  7. Serve your patties on toasted burger buns to complete your masterpiece.

TIP: Prepare extra of the meat mixture and save your uncooked patties in the freezer for up to three months. When ready to eat, slip your frozen patties into the fridge the night before to properly defrost.
